This month's Fourth Friday Art Walk in Ste Genevieve on April 23 from 6 to 9 pm will feature regional and national artists, a talk with sculptor Gary Mifflin, a new gallery, and entertainment.
Imagine what you can make with a baseball bat and then come out for the Fourth Friday Art Walk when sculptor, Gary Mifflin will discuss what he has created with baseball bats. His work will be on display at the LeMeilleur House Gallery until mid-May.
Across the street at the Linden House gallery, you will be able to see the entries from Ste. Genevieve County K through 5th graders in the Picture Sainte Genevieve History Art Contest as well as photos by Scott Kincade. Refreshments will be served in both galleries and admission to the galleries is free during the Art Walk.
The Joseph Sisters Gallery is celebrating a grand reopening in a new location this month featuring traditional belly dancers, authentic Lebanese food and music in honor of gallery owner Sam Sampson’s grandmother and her sisters.
Featured artists at Ste. Genevieve's newest art gallery, The Hayloft at Big Field, are Capt. Bob Uding and Patricia Uding, both natives of Ste. Genevieve. Capt. Bob's work is a lamination of various woods, segmented and turned, resulting in intricate and functional pieces. His wood crafts are displayed at Mercado Gallery in Albuquerque NM and the Chimayo Trading Post Gallery in Chimayo, NM. Patricia Uding, currently resides in Flagstaff AZ and describes her art as "outsider artwork." A self-taught artist, her vivid work has been displayed at various galleries in Flagstaff.
Studio de Michel is featuring Illinois artist, Kathy Gomric. Her unique graphite pencil drawings "come from within", she says, as she "starts with an inspiration and it grows into finished art." Many times, figures and forms emerge out of the shadows and highlights in trees and natural, organic forms. The drawing takes her on a journey until it reaches completion.
Center or the Arts will be featuring artist, Mark Wilding of St. Louis. Mark’s work centers around taking wood, found along the road, or from his brother’s wood pile, grown in the back yard, or pretty much wherever he can find it, and turning it into a piece of three dimensional art. A large percentage of his work features the natural edge of the wood. This process brings the true beauty of form to life. "Come meet the artist," invites gallery owner, Diane Wilson, "and see his beautiful carved wood pieces."
Other galleries reporting to be open are Mo’sArt Studio, the Welcome Center, Galleria Ste Gen, Merchant Street Gallery, Studio 221 and Art at Sainte Genevieve Winery. All galleries are located within the picturesque three by three block downtown historic district. More information and an Art Walk map can be found on the web at http://stegenartwalk.blogspot.com
